i have not read many qaf stories since the show ended, and even the ones i have (for the most part) have left me thinking that i have lost all emotion for everything qaf-related. well friends, apparently i was WRONG.

interval by dontyouwaitup (whoever she is!!!) is one of the most amazing things i have read in a long, long time. the characterization and pacing are spot-on for me", and there is this gorgeous, slow build to an ending that just explodes, it's so perfect. you absolutely must read it, and then you must lament with me that this girl wasn't writing this kind of stuff back when we all cared a lot more than this!!!

* i say the characterization is spot-on, but if you don't like the great love-that-never-was between brian and lindsay, you might want to skim through some parts...

please note: i just read/skimmed/barfed on every single entry to qaf_anon. most of them i barfed on. out of the entire list of like three million stories, there were approximately (exactly) six that i liked and did not find painfully pretentious or badly-written or just plain retardedly stupid, ok! they are the following:

i guess i should admit that i did not read this all the way through. but what i read, i liked! i no longer have the undying love for brian and justin that is required for plodding through very long stories. however, i very much enjoyed the opening, with hunter & co. betting on how long brian will last in pittsburgh, and i also liked the very end where brian and justin fell in love again. i think that is really enough, don't you?

this story is very cute, and i love very much that it includes the phrase "your cat lady neighbor." also, it is clearly written by someone who really loves new york, and justin loves people who love new york. please go read it; you will not be sorry, and you might learn something about how to write second person and not appear to be challenged in the fundamentals of the english language.

please, let there be no question about it: this story is a buffy the vampire slayer crossover. despite this intial shortcoming, or at least my perception that it would be a shortcoming, i totally loved it. it is filled with clever, witty little gems and tops off with an ethan gold/scott hope joke. who can beat that?

WAH. THIS STORY WAS SO SAD BUT I LOVED IT ANYWAY. it is about carnivals and "party naked" t-shirts and lottery tickets, but still it was very sad!!! also it reminded me of valerie_z's story "lucky," which was about monkey butlers, and that just makes the entire thing that much better. but rest assured, author of this story, i loved it on its own too!

for the record: this was my favorite, by far. by far!!! i mean, a contest where brian and justin try to make more people fall in love with them? perfect. it was definitely the best idea out of the entries, including the one where justin got hit by a meteor and the one where the devil pretended justin had AIDS. it was also a better idea than the one where... well, all those other ones. the bottom line: I LOVE THIS STORY. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

the results have been tabulated, and after much deliberation (ahem), my decision is this: the 513 challenge is sort of a limited-time deal, you know? we can't like, wait and do it later, whereas a remix will be awesome at any time during the season, and if there's some boring lesbian plotline or ted gets hooked on drugs again, we can use the remix challenge to make the minutes pass more quickly. so, without further ado, i present:

COMING, THEN GOING: QAF DREAM ENDING CHALLENGE

what it is
there are a million ways that queer as folk could end... but how should it? we're fast-approaching may twenty-second, aka the beginning of the end, and everybody has an idea of what they want for brian and justin, from a romantic beachfront wedding ceremony (AWWWW) to justin finally dumping brian and buying a dog... then killing himself. (thanks, randy harrison!) we can't force cowlip to go back and rewrite whatever ending they'll eventually thrust upon us, but we can write our own.

you can write a spoilery ending, a non-spoilery ending, the ending that the voices told you to write. hell, if you want, you can even try to predict what the two-headed beast itself will come up with! and don't worry about getting spoiled if you don't want to... all will be taken care of, omg.

how it works
to maximize celebration/lamentation potential, the challenge will be arranged somewhat like a countdown. after everyone who's interested has signed up, i'll go back and randomly assign each person a number from 1-21. your number will correspond to that particular day of may, and that'll be YOUR (and maybe somebody else's) day to post your ending. that way we can prolong it, draw it out, whatever you want, so that we have at least one story for each day leading up to 501.

a note on spoilers: i'll have more about this later, but when you post your fic, you'll also be asked to post an image featuring the SUPERFANTASTIC SPOIL-O-METER 3000!!!!! in other words, i'm going to come up with a tardly way to very clearly warn everyone of exactly how spoilery each story is. if you're not willing to abide by this rule (which is v.v.v. important omg!!) then please don't sign up!

deadlines
since we're limited for time, sign-ups will be open until friday, april 15 at 11:59 pm, eastern daylight time. clearly, as soon as you sign up, you can start working on your submission, but i want to go ahead and give people their numbers as soon as possible and make sure that we have people signed up for every day.

there is not a specific date on which every story is due -- your story should be posted sometime before midnight (in your time zone) on the day that you're assigned to post!
